Microgynon 30 is an oral contraception pill. Compared to most contraceptives, the tablet contains fewer oestrogen levels. The Microgynon ED has the same properties but comes in a 28-day pack. Microgynon 30 contains two synthetic hormones, levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol. These hormones hinder ovulation. The pill also thickens the fluid in the cervix to prevent the sperm from reaching the uterus. During menstruation, the uterus walls build up in readiness for fertilisation. Microgynon 30 reduces the buildup, decreasing the chances of the fertilised egg developing into an embryo.
What is Microgynon 30 used for?
Microgynon 30 is a combined oral contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. It contains two synthetic hormones, ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel, which work together to stop ovulation and make it harder for sperm to reach an egg or for an egg to implant in the womb.
How should I take Microgynon 30?
Take one pill daily at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break during which you will likely have a withdrawal bleed. After the 7-day break, start a new pack.

If you miss two or more pills, take one as soon as you remember and discard the rest, then continue with the next pill at the regular time. Use additional contraception for the next seven days.
What are the common side effects of Microgynon 30?
Common side effects include mood changes, headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, and spotting between periods. Serious side effects, such as blood clots, are rare but require immediate medical attention.
