Pregnancy and Treclin Gel
Treclin should be prescribed to women of childbearing potential only if they use effective contraception during treatment and for four weeks after stopping treatment.
There is limited data on the use of Treclin in pregnant women. Studies on a small number of pregnancies exposed to clindamycin during the first trimester have shown no adverse effects on pregnancy or the health of the fetus/newborn. Clindamycin is not teratogenic in reproduction studies on rats and mice when administered subcutaneously and orally.
Nevertheless, Treclin should not be used by pregnant women, especially during the first trimester, or by sexually active women not using contraception.
There is insufficient data on the effects of tretinoin and clindamycin on breast milk secretion following the use of Treclin. Therefore, it is advised that women who are breastfeeding should not use Treclin.
Reproduction studies in rats and mice with subcutaneous and oral doses of clindamycin have shown no evidence of impaired fertility. However, orally administered tretinoin significantly affects fertility. Data on the effects of topical administration on human fertility are limited.
